ABSTRACT
Background: Significant controversy exists regarding the causes of premature, natural hip-joint failure. Identification these may guide future investigations targeting prevention this disorder. The aims study were to: (1) determine and characterize structural abnormalities associated with failure, (2) analyze disease progression in contralateral hips patients femoroacetabular impingement deformities. Methods: We analyzed 604 (710 hips) from three different medical centers who underwent primary total hip arthroplasty at or before fifty years age (average age, forty years). Three hundred fourteen (52%) male, 290 (48%) female. Results: diagnoses premature failure varied, but osteoarthritis osteonecrosis most common. Radiographic developmental dysplasia majority osteoarthritic hips. Hips deformities demonstrated distinct anatomy relative to asymptomatic hips, a high prevalence bilateral In subgroup seventy deformities, radiographic need for was observed 73% Conclusions: Osteoarthritis are major young patients. Femoroacetabular usually commonly hip. Level Evidence: Prognostic IV. See Instructions Authors complete description levels evidence.
