ABSTRACT
In humid temperate climates, N is still a major limiting factor for wheat ( Triticum aestivum L.) production. Our objective was to understand and quantify deficiency effects on the crop grain number develop optimum fertilizer management strategies wheat. this aim, several experiments were conducted various soil types climates with ‘Soissons’ winter Rates dates of application varied in each experiment. This resulted highly variable dynamics accumulation plants, leading deficiencies throughout cycle. Deficiencies characterized by nutrition index (NNI). Seven criteria describing (beginning deficiency, BD; end ED; duration DD; intensity ID; product ID × DD = IDD; lack nitrogen at anthesis, LNA; NNI ) estimated treatment. Large ranges obtained criterion. Treatments also numbers. For deficient crop, decrease relative control treatment same experiment (RGN) analyzed according criteria. Whatever component affected (spike per square meter or spike), RGN appeared depend history main explicative being IDD, that is, deficiency. The equation 1.00355–0.00110 IDD R 2 0.929) allows prediction crops subjected fertilization strategies.
