Mental Health Status of Survivors Following COVID-19 in Wuhan, China: A Descriptive Study

ABSTRACT
Background: Inpatients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been well depicted in clinical characteristics. However, few studies reported post-discharge conditions, especially mental health status, for survivors following COVID-19. In this study, we aimed to first report status COVID-19 and explore relevant influence factors. Methods: descriptive case series, enrolled a population of 370 Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital, China. Survivors were discharged during Jan 4 Feb 12, 2020. Telephone follow-up was conducted. Readmission symptoms signs inquired. Mental conditions anxiety depression assessed using The Generalized Anxiety Disorder Screener (GAD-7) Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), respectively. Results: median period 22 days (interquartile range 20~30 days). Of the survivors, no readmitted due recurrence SARS-CoV-2-positive pneumonia. Sixty (16.2%) had cough 45 (12.2%) breathlessness after activity. One hundred seventy-three (46.8%) worried about 174 (47.0%) infection others such as their family. Two ninety-three (79.2%) took home quarantine lifestyle. Fifty (13.5%) occurred 40 (10.8%) depression. most bothered by sleeping disorders (29.5%). Four (1.1%) once thoughts suicide several days. Three fifty-six (96.2%) willing return hospital examination. significantly associated respiratory symptoms, worry (P<0.05).
