Emergency Physicians’ Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices Related to Psychiatric Emergencies in Makkah’s General Hospitals in Saudi Arabia: A Cross-Sectional Study

ABSTRACT
Purpose: This study aims to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of emergency physicians (EPs) related psychiatric emergencies (PEs) in Makkah's general hospitals. Sample Methods: was an observational cross-sectional using online survey distributed 138 EPs departments (EDs) six public hospitals Makkah City, Saudi Arabia, between March 15 May 1, 2023. A convenience sample used for data collection. The questionnaire developed after surveys literature were reviewed. Results: 59.9% aged 20– 30 years. Most (68.8%) worked that had facilities. Regarding only 30% doctors considered knowledgeable: majority could identify PEs (79.7%), perform mental status examinations (71.0%), distinguish physical symptoms (66.7%), communicate with patients (58.0%). However, 52.9% initiate management plans by prescribing medication patients. In relation attitude, most disagreed idea healthcare practitioners do not need advocate (67.4%), but many (62.3%) assumed they have responsibility manage patients, felt conducting evaluations is challenging because busy environment there. As regards practice, mentally ill (60.9%) managed or referred practices, 56.5% advised these upon discharge. Conclusion: showed positive attitudes toward their knowledge varied based on age, occupation levels, years experience. There significant gaps, particularly regarding effective communication Additionally, without being aware resources hospital.
