Effectiveness of topical peppermint oil on symptomatic treatment of chronic pruritus

ABSTRACT
Pruritus is one of the commonest skin complaints. Peppermint oil can be effective in reducing severity such a condition.The aim this study was to assess efficacy topically applied peppermint treatment chronic pruritus.Fifty selected subjects diagnosed with pruritus due hepatic, renal, or diabetic cause were studied and divided into two groups 25 patients each. Group I instructed hydrate then apply topical oil, while II petrolatum by hand; application done on areas pruritus, twice daily for 2 weeks. The itch assessed compared before after 5-D scale (5D-IS). results analyzed SPSS software. Statistical methods as descriptive analysis, independent samples t-test, paired chi-square test employed.There significant improvement regarding all individual parameters (5-D IS) users no significance among users. A comparison total score IS between favored following use than using placebo (P-value <0.05).The effective, easy use, safe, cheap, more acceptable those whose systemic treatments tend irritating, contraindicated, less well tolerated.
