Burden and Cost of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction and Reimbursement of Its Treatment in a Developing Country: An Observational Study in Indonesia

ABSTRACT
Objective: The number of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) procedures is increasing. However, ACLR are likely to be underbudgeted in a developing country like Indonesia. This study aimed analyze costs for Indonesia's resource-limited context, determine the burden ACLR, and suggest national prices reimbursement. Methods: A retrospective observational was conducted between 1 January 31 December 2019 on cost from payer perspective using inpatient billing records four hospitals. calculated, projected reimbursement were determined. Results: Of 80 ACLRs, 53 (66%) isolated ACLRs 27 (34%) combined with meniscus treatment. Mean hospital incurred per procedure US$ 2853, dominant relating orthopedic implant (US$ 1,387.80). treatment estimated as being 35% higher than ACLR. showed total budget 367.4 million 100,000 patients (0.03% GDP) additional 271.3 (0.02% Conclusion: Indonesia underbudgeted.
