ABSTRACT
In this study, we attempted to compare the efficacy and toxicity of concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) with radiotherapy alone (RT) for locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LANPC) in era intensity-modulated (IMRT) by meta-analysis.We searched databases, all randomized controlled trials meeting inclusion criteria were utilized a meta-analysis RevMan 5.3 based on Cochrane methodology.Fifteen studies found suitable criteria. CCRT not only significantly improved overall response rate (risk ratio [RR]=0.53, 95% CI 0.43-0.66) complete (RR=0.60, 0.51-0.71) but also contributed longer survival. The incidence grade 3-4 adverse events from group increased hematologic (RR 2.25, 1.54-3.29), radiation-induced oral mucositis 1.64, 1.14-2.35), radiodermatitis 1.80, 1.13-2.88).Compared IMRT alone, provided survival benefit acceptable patients LANPC. However, need multicenter long-term follow-up evaluate eventual chemotherapy plus IMRT.
