ABSTRACT
Background: Oxidative stress is one of the important mechanisms underlying pathogenesis chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Irisin a type myokine secreted from muscle during exercise and acts against oxidative via nuclear factor erythroid 2-related 2 (Nrf2), transcription with antioxidant properties. Here, we examined emphysema suppressive effects exercise-irisin-Nrf2 axis in mice. Methods: Mice were divided into three groups, namely, control, smoking, + smoking groups. All mice groups exposed to cigarette smoke once day. The group adapted treadmill To investigate Nrf2 cascade, after 12 weeks, serum irisin concentration heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) expression lung homogenate determined. evaluate smoke-induced COPD, number inflammatory cells bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), mean linear intercept (MLI), destructive index tissue examined. Results: Serum levels HO-1 significantly higher than those control proportion neutrophils BALF was lower group. MLI also smaller Conclusion: may exert protective HO-1, ameliorate COPD. serve as novel target for COPD treatment. Keywords: disease, stress, exercise, irisin, 2,
