Medical Cannabis Use Patterns for Sleep Disorders in Australia: Results of the Cross-Sectional CAMS-20 Survey

ABSTRACT
Sleep disorders are the third most common indication for prescription of medical cannabis products in Australia, after pain and anxiety. While use purposes is growing underlying consumer behaviours patterns use, particularly around sleep disorders, poorly understood.We conducted a subanalysis cross-sectional "Cannabis as Medicine Survey" 2020-2021 (CAMS-20) (N = 1600), to explore characteristics sample Australians who were using prescribed and/or illicit treat self-reported disorder.When asked specify up seven different conditions they treating with cannabis, total 1030 (64%) respondents [mean (SD) 44.9 (13.6) years] selected disorder, "insomnia disorder" (85.5%), 'sleep-related movement disorders' (26%) breathing (11.1%) subtypes. Only 165 (16.8%) disorder main health condition being treated. Relative other conditions, was associated younger age, increased likelihood both forms inhaled routes administration, THC-dominant products. Most reported reduction benzodiazepines alcohol since starting cannabis. Binary logistic regression showed that predominantly used concomitant pain, mental substance or gastrointestinal significantly more likely also disorder.Overall, these results suggest often treated alongside (often disorder) methods, products, sources among people Australia.
