ABSTRACT
Objective: To evaluate the impact of systematic nutrition management (SNM) on nutritional status, treatment-related toxicity, quality life (QoL), response rates, and survival in patients with locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LA-NPC) treated by radiotherapy (RT). Methods: In this retrospective study, 56 LA-NPC were selected as group (NG) for SNM during RT till 1 month later. Another receiving without control (CG) identified from hospital database matched pairs NG according to age, gender, stage, body mass index (BMI) prior RT. Results: At after RT, percentage malnourished BMI <18.5 kg/m 2 was statistically significant reduced compared CG (35.7% vs 58.9%, P =0.014). Nutritional indexes weight, hemoglobin, prealbumin, lymphocyte higher than those ( <0.05). had less grade 3–4 oral mucositis (32.1% 51.8%, =0.035). Furthermore, at an improved QoL observed respect physical, role social functions, symptom scales fatigue pain, global health status P< 0.05). With a median follow-up 24.8 months, there no statistical differences between >0.05) 2-year progression-free overall (84.2% versus 79.5% 94.7% 92.3%, respectively.). Conclusion: resulted better toxicity QoL. Keywords: carcinoma, radiotherapy, management, clinical outcome
