ABSTRACT
Whilst the recent introduction of Right-to-Repair to European citizens is undoubtedly a step forward in tackling planned obsolescence, and resultant deluge electronic product waste – efficacy this new legislation reliant on consumers availing themselves right. Given that repairing maintaining devices will often require specialist knowledge skills, it difficult assess how effective right may prove be practice. To address concern, we draw from expanding infusion datafication Artificial Intelligence into everyday products services via Internet Things consider alternative futures whereby granted device itself. Building upon More-than-Human-Centred Design approaches, explore potential embodiment for such perspective present two Speculative Designs concretise consideration: Toaster Life The Three Rights AI Things.
