Effect of Instructional Guidelines on Mothers’ knowledge, Practice and Lifestyle of their Children with Phenylketonuria

ABSTRACT
Background: Phenylketonuria is an autosomal recessive condition in which phenylalanine accumulates the blood and bodily fluids due to a lack of Phehydroxylase activity.The study aimed evaluate effect instructional guidelines on mothers' knowledge, practice lifestyle their children with phenylketonuria.Design: A quasiexperimental research design was utilized achieve study's aim.Setting: The conducted at genetic counseling clinic basic health care unit Sohag City affiliated Ministry Health (MOH).Sample: purposive sample included 100 mothers accompanied by Phenylketonuria.Tools: Two tools were used: Tool I: Mothers' knowledge reported regarding phenylketonuria: structured interview questionnaire II: Children's assessment questionnaire.Results: revealed that there statistically significant improvement post-intervention practices children's phenylketonuria than pre-intervention.A correlation detected between compliance prescribed diet growth problems.No found sleep problems.Conclusion: concluded effective improving practice, phenylketonuria.Recommendations: education program for should be provided increase about phenylketonuria, as well identify importance this condition.
