Serum Vitamin D Deficiency in Idiopathic Preterm Labor: Case Control Study

ABSTRACT
Background: Preterm labor (PTL) is the most common cause of neonatal death worldwide.In Egypt, average rate preterm estimated to be 14.7%.Objective: This study aimed evaluate relation between maternal vitamin D deficiency and idiopathic birth.Patients Methods: case-control was conducted on 160 pregnant women; 80 women with PTL as cases another term birth controls, who were admitted Obstetrics Gynecology Department in Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital.Results: Using ROC curve, serum 25(OH) level ≤ 32 ng/ml significantly associated (p = 0.001), moderate sensitivity 80% low specificity 47.5%.Conclusion: delivery 32.0 ng/ml.Although a significant risk factor, but it cannot considered diagnostic tool predicting PTL.
