ABSTRACT
Abstract Water and sanitation services are critical for public health. The importance of these is reflected in SDG 6 the associated targets 6.1, 6.2 6.3. Much progress remains to be made achieve targets, but it already becoming clear that greater ambition needed. This paper looks at three global challenges: need increase level service protect health including infectious respiratory diseases; role combatting anti-microbial resistance (AMR); urgent build more climate-resilient services. We upgrade focus on universal access piped water premises, incorporate action AMR definitions safe embed actions improve resilience, which take into account called targets. requires a shift thinking sector, away from relying households communities manage their properly funded, professional staffed by trained technical, managerial finance staff. will require better use financial instruments have proved effective other sectors.
