Evaluation of a tropical single-cell waste stabilization pond system for irrigation

ABSTRACT
A single full-scale primary facultative pond in Sapé, north-east Brazil was monitored for performance and efficiency. The had a hydraulic retention time of 61 days achieved 95% BOD5 removal efficiency no helminth eggs the effluent. effluent failed to meet WHO faecal coliform guideline unrestricted irrigation. dominated by cyanobacterium Microcystis gave better than predicted orthophosphate removal. Details how system could be simply upgraded utilizing same land are discussed.
