ABSTRACT
This study aimed to develop a simple screening test for mastication, "the Sakiika (squid jerky) transport (STT), which evaluates the vertical jaw movement coordinated with lateral tongue during stage I transport, and investigate possibility of its clinical application. The included 73 people dysphagia (mean age, 78.5 ± 7.8 years; median 79.0 interquartile range, 75.0-84.0). The STT evaluated ability participant piece squid jerky placed on midline molar region. score was defined as number movements occurring transported food molars. A cutoff value set by comparing scores masticatory function via videofluoroscopic swallowing texture using Food Intake LEVEL Scale (FILS).The counted two examiners had κ coefficient 0.79, indicating good reliability. significantly associated both presence ( p = 0.019) classified FILS 0.032) at "3" (3 movements). showed 62% sensitivity 75% specificity movements. The could be useful assess or absence transportation molars mastication in older patients dysphagia. In addition, identifying need modify meet functions.
