ABSTRACT
Objective: To identify the possible subcutaneous and peri/intraosseous injection risks with different needle lengths in adults using adrenaline autoinjectors (AAI) lengths. In addition, optimum lowest failure risk were determined for both genders. Materials Methods: Skin-to-muscle distance (STMD) skin-to-bone (STBD) measured under minimal maximum pressures at anterolateral aspect of thigh by ultrasound. Risks injection, total events calculated genders taking a 15.2 mm length as reference calculations. Possible most optimal least event each gender body mass index (BMI) threshold levels. Results: A 208 (118 women, 90 men) mean age 46.3±15.7 enrolled. BMI had highest correlation all ultrasonographic measures gender. STMDmax 45 women (38%) one man (1.1%) longer than mm. For men, was similar (3.3%) ranging from 12 to 18 considering two levels (20 28 kg/m2 26 32 kg/m2) reduced 6.7% thresholds. Conclusion: The inadequate intramuscular delivery is higher especially those BMI. Individualization AAI according certain values can improve outcome, obese women.
