ABSTRACT
Background Proper training and follow-up for patients new to continuous glucose monitor (CGM) use are required maintain adherence achieve diabetes-related outcomes. However, CGM is hampered by the lack of evidence-based standards poor reimbursement. We hypothesized that web-based education would be effective could provided with minimal burden health care team. Objective The aim this study was perform a pilot feasibility testing theory-driven, intervention designed provide extended support adolescents young adults newly implementing describe adherence, glycemic control, CGM-specific psychosocial measures before after intervention. Methods “Intervention Designed Educate improve Adherence through Learning (IDEAL CGM)” based on supporting literature theoretical concepts adapted from belief model social cognitive theory. Patients CGM, who were aged 15-24 years type 1 diabetes more than 6 months recruited within public university’s endocrinology clinic. Participants randomized enhanced standard or plus IDEAL using 1:3 randomization scheme. Hemoglobin A1c levels assessed at baseline 3 start Results Ten eligible subjects approached recruitment 8 randomized. Within group, 4 participants received exposure training. Half completed least 5 7 modules; however, dosage level engagement varied widely among participants. This proof concept deliver support. revisions needed in order determine feasibility. Conclusions underscores importance continued research efforts optimize tools their potential control impact technologies without adding significant Enhancements should made increase engagement, maximize responsiveness, ensure attainment skills necessary consistent improvements prior design larger well-powered clinical trial establish Trial Registration ClinicalTrials.gov NCT03367351, https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03367351.
