Perspectives of Patients, Health Care Professionals, and Developers Toward Blockchain-Based Health Information Exchange: Qualitative Study

ABSTRACT
Although the electronic health record system adoption rate has reached 96% in United States, implementation and usage of information exchange (HIE) is still lagging behind. Blockchain come into spotlight as a technology to solve this problem. However, there have been no studies assessing perspectives different stakeholders regarding blockchain-based patient-centered HIE.The objective study was analyze awareness among patients, care professionals, developers toward HIE, compare their related platform using qualitative research methodology.In study, we applied grounded theory Promoting Action on Research Implementation Health Service (PARiHS) framework. We interviewed 7 physicians, developers, for total 21 interviewees.Regarding leakage information, patient group did not concerns contrast physician developer groups. Physicians were particularly concerned about fact that errors data cannot be easily fixed due nature blockchain technology. Patients against idea providing clinical trials or institutions. They wished provided with results rather than being compensated data. The emphasized must technically mature before it can scene, standards medical exchanged first established.The three groups' perceptions generally positive patients having control sharing own information. they skeptical cooperation various institutions standardization establishment process, addition how service will employed practice. Taking these factors consideration during planning, development, operation contribute establishing practical treatment plans tracking more convenient manner both physicians. Furthermore, help expand management industry based blockchain.
