ABSTRACT
Background Dermoscopy is a growing field that uses microscopy to allow dermatologists and primary care physicians identify skin lesions. For given lesion, wide variety of differential diagnoses exist, which may be challenging for inexperienced users name understand. Objective In this study, we describe the creation dermoscopy diagnosis explorer (D3X), an ontology linking dermoscopic patterns diagnoses. Methods Existing ontologies were incorporated into D3X include elements visuals ontology, connect visual features patterns. A list each pattern was generated from literature in consultation with domain experts. Open-source images DermNet, Dermoscopedia, open-access research papers. Results encoded OWL 2 web language includes 3041 logical axioms, 1519 classes, 103 object properties, 20 data properties. We compared publicly available dermatology using semiotic theory–driven metric measure innate qualities others. The results indicate adequately comparable other domain. Conclusions resource can link integrate supplementary information existing ontology-based resources. Future directions developing application based on education clinical practice.
