ABSTRACT
Abstract Background Urinary and defecatory dysfunction (UDD) is a significant concern among the aging population in China. However, there lack of longitudinal research exploring risk factors UDD severity Chinese older adults. Objective This study uses data from China Health Retirement Longitudinal Study spanning 2011 to 2020 explore middle-aged adult population, focusing on epidemiological characteristics potential influences severity. Methods A cohort over 10,000 participants was analyzed across 5 waves using Bayesian logistic regression. analysis examined associations between including demographic, lifestyle, health-related factors, comorbidities, BMI, handgrip strength. Results Higher prevalence observed female adults, those with low education levels, rural residents. Depression, arthritis, strength emerged as critical predictors severe UDD. Additionally, abnormal both underweight (odds ratio [OR] 3.019, 95% CI 1.484‐5.951; P =0.002) obesity (OR 2.697, 1.338‐5.217; =0.005), strongly linked increased persistence Participants aged 66 years exhibited highest prevalence, obese individuals facing greatest persistent worsening symptoms. Conclusions first longitudinally examine China’s middle-aging population. The findings underscore need for targeted interventions muscle rehabilitation comorbidity management mitigate progression, contributing improved quality life individuals.
