ABSTRACT
<title>BACKGROUND</title> e-Consultations between primary care physicians and specialists are a valuable means of improving access to specialty care. Adolescents young adults (AYAs) face unique challenges in accessing limited adolescent medicine resources, which contributes delayed or forgone general pediatricians may alleviate these barriers However, the optimal application this model requires careful attention nuances AYA
<title>OBJECTIVE</title> This study aims qualitatively analyze feedback obtained during iterative development an e-consultation system for communication tailored specific health needs AYAs. <title>METHODS</title> We conducted user-centered design evaluation process two phases. In first phase, we created static prototype storyboards evaluated them with target users (general specialists). second incorporated develop functional within electronic record again specialists. each provided &lt;i&gt;think-aloud&lt;/i&gt; use prototypes semistructured exit interviews, was analyzed identify perspectives related usefulness usability system. <title>RESULTS</title> Both (n=12) perceived e-consultations patients, more varied perceptions potential generalist clinicians. General discussed ways maximize AYAs, primarily by efficiency (eg, reducing documentation, emphasizing critical information, using autopopulated data fields, balancing specificity through text prompts) errors prompting review requiring physician contact explicit discussion patient confidentiality expectations). Through design, history documentation streamlined, whereas expectations were enhanced. <title>CONCLUSIONS</title> process, identified user guide refinement based on pediatrician specialist Qualitative analysis revealed both opportunities risks confidentiality, communication, prompts that should be considered <title>CLINICALTRIAL</title> <p />
