ABSTRACT
<title>BACKGROUND</title> Cardiac arrest after cardiac surgery commonly has a reversible cause, where emergency resternotomy is often required for treatment, as recommended by international guidelines. We have developed virtual reality (VR) simulation training of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and procedures surgery, the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Virtual Reality Simulator (CPVR-sim). Two fictive clinical scenarios were used: one case pulseless electrical activity (PEA) combined PEA ventricular fibrillation. In this prospective study, we researched face validity content CPVR-sim.
<title>OBJECTIVE</title> designed study to assess feasibility establish two (shockable nonshockable arrest) CPVR-sim partly divided into group novices experts in performing CPR resternotomies patients surgery. <title>METHODS</title> Clinicians (staff cardiothoracic surgeons, physicians, surgical residents, nurse practitioners, medical students) participated performed different scenarios, either or All participants (N=41) completed questionnaire rating simulator’s usefulness, satisfaction, ease use, effectiveness, immersiveness validity. <title>RESULTS</title> Responses toward predominantly positive both groups. Most scenario (n=26, 87%) felt actively involved simulation, 23 (77%) charge situation. The thought it was easy learn how interact with software (n=24, 80%) that responded adequately (n=21, 70%). 15 (100%) expert preferred VR an addition conventional training. Moreover, 13 (87%) would recommend other colleagues, 14 (93%) useful method train infrequent post–cardiac emergencies requiring CPR. Additionally, 10 (91%) move environment, scenario. <title>CONCLUSIONS</title> proof-of-concept patient which found immersive useful. By proving CPVR-sim, present first step platform.
