ABSTRACT
<sec> <title>BACKGROUND</title> Current eHealth interventions are poorly adopted by people with low health literacy (LHL) as they often fail to meet their needs, skills, and preferences. A major reason for this poor adoption is the generic, one-size-fits-all approach taken designers of these interventions, without addressing preferences disadvantaged groups. Participatory design approaches effective developing that fit needs specific target groups; yet, very little known about practical implications executing a participatory project LHL. </sec> <title>OBJECTIVE</title> This study aimed demonstrate application activities specifically selected skills LHL how were manifested within an overarching process. In addition, aims present reflections could support future engage in processes. <title>METHODS</title> We used process smart asthma inhaler activities. The was framed under 5 stages thinking: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test 2 iteration cycles. integrated 3 deemed appropriate LHL: co-constructing stories, experience prototype exhibition, video evaluation. <title>RESULTS</title> Co-constructing stories found deepen understanding participant’s motivation use or not maintenance medication. informed facilitated subsequent development diverse preliminary prototypes possible interventions. Discussing exhibition helped provoke reactions, thoughts, feelings potential scenarios use.
