Assessing and Promoting Cardiovascular Health for Adolescent Women: A User-Centered Design Approach (Preprint)

ABSTRACT
<sec> <title>BACKGROUND</title> Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of death in women United States. Awareness CVD and its risk factors are critical to reversing this trend. </sec> <title>OBJECTIVE</title> This project aimed assess awareness among adolescent young adult develop a lifestyle-based cardiovascular assessment tool for use with population. <title>METHODS</title> study used 3-phase iterative design process from primary care reproductive clinics Atlanta, Georgia. In Phase 1, we administered modified version American Heart Association Women’s Health Survey ages 15-24 (n=67) their general awareness. 2, interviewed 13-21 (n=10) healthcare practitioners solicit suggestions adapting an existing age group. 3, employed user-centered collect feedback approximately 105 as adapted tool. <title>RESULTS</title> Only 10.5% (n=7) surveyed correctly identified leading US. Few respondents reported having discussed personal (6%, n=4) or family history (11.9%, n=8) provider. Young demonstrated increased knowledge after completing suggested making more teen-friendly by incorporating relevant foods activity options. The result was youth friendly prototype <title>CONCLUSIONS</title> Adolescent demonstrate low CVD. illustrates potential value showcases importance when creating digital health interventions.
