ABSTRACT
<title>BACKGROUND</title> Patients with cancer require adequate preparation in self-management of treatment toxicities to reduce morbidity that can be achieved through well-designed digital technologies are developed co-design patients and end users.
<title>OBJECTIVE</title> We undertook a user-centered process partnership other knowledge users develop iteratively test an evidence-based theoretically informed web-based program (I-Can Manage). The specific study aims addressed 2 phases were (1) identify from the perspective clinicians desired content, features, functionalities for online education support (SMES) enable patient (phase 1); (2) SMES prototype based on human-centered, health literate design principles processes; (3) evaluate usability I-Can Manage testing 2). <title>METHODS</title> using multiperspective data sources humanistic engaged 5 development. recruited adult lung, colorectal, lymphoma receiving systemic treatments ambulatory clinics regional programs qualitative inquiry phase. was by interviews focus groups, persona journey mapping, theoretical underpinnings social cognitive learning theory, formalized think-aloud user satisfaction survey. A team comprising key stakeholders (human experts, patients/caregiver, clinicians, users, e-learning experts) involved developmental process. used participants completed Post-Study System Usability Questionnaire (PSSUQ). <title>RESULTS</title> In initial phase, 16 participated 19 or groups 12 mapping workshop inform development prototype. integrates information strategies health-promoting behaviors 6 modules (lay termed “chapters”), starting orientation self-management. Behavioral exercises, written video stories, downloadable resources, completion goals action plans integrated across chapters. Patient (n=5) different cancers, gender, age worked human factors laboratory all reviewed each chapter approved revisions. Results PSSUQ (mean total score: 3.75) following suggest Manage. <title>CONCLUSIONS</title> has potential activating but requires larger randomized controlled trial.
