ABSTRACT
<title>BACKGROUND</title> SMS text messaging- and internet-based self-reporting systems can supplement existing vaccine safety surveillance systems, but real-world participation patterns have not been assessed at scale.
<title>OBJECTIVE</title> This study aimed to describe the rates of a new system called Kaiser Permanente Side Effect Monitor (KPSEM) within large integrated health care system. <title>METHODS</title> We conducted prospective cohort Southern California (KPSC) patients receiving COVID-19 vaccination from April 23, 2021, July 31, 2023. Patients received invitations through flyers, messages, emails, or patient portals. After consenting, regular surveys assess adverse events up 5 weeks after each dose. Linkage with medical records provided demographic clinical data. In this study, we KPSEM rates, defined as providing consent completing least 1 survey 35 days vaccination. <title>RESULTS</title> Approximately, 8% (164,636/2,091,975) all vaccinated completed days. The lowest were observed for parents children aged 12-17 years (1349/152,928, 0.9% rate), highest was among older adults 61-70 (39,844/329,487, 12.1%). Persons non-Hispanic White race more likely participate compared other races ethnicities (13.1% vs 3.9%-7.5%, respectively; <i>P</i>&lt;.001). addition, residing in areas higher neighborhood deprivation index less (5.1%, 16,503/323,122 10.8%, 38,084/352,939 quintiles, Invitations individual's portal account by message associated rate (19.2%, 70,248/366,377 10.5%, 96,169/914,793, respectively), followed email (19,464/396,912, 4.9%) then QR codes on flyers (25,882/2,091,975, 1.2%). messaging–based demonstrated sustained daily response surveys. <title>CONCLUSIONS</title> that novel digital implemented an achieve high rates. participants’ electronic is another unique benefit also identified lower selected vulnerable populations, which may implications when interpreting data collected similar systems.
