An Interactive, Bilingual Touch Screen Program to Promote Breastfeeding Among Hispanic Rural Women: Usability Study

ABSTRACT
Computer technology can be effectively used to educate patients and improve knowledge attitudes, leading healthier behavior. Among rural women, breastfeeding outcomes seem worst compared women living in urban areas. The implementation of a bilingual computer mediated health education program disseminate information among users with low literacy levels has proven successful.The objective this pilot study was examine the usability an interactive, touch screen computer-based educational promote practices Hispanic settings.A convenience sample 10 at Regional West Medical Center (RWMC), Scottsbluff enrolled during May 2013. Information about cross-sectional made available through flyers RWMC. A brief introduction prototype given subjects were then asked complete predefined set tasks by interacting prototype. Users assigned 6 gathered time taken tasks, number attempts, if assistance needed. Notes test sessions audiotaped. Usability assessment performed using System Scale (SUS).The mean age participants 28 years (SD 3.6), majority them had 12 or more (90%, 9/10), 60% (6/10) breastfed less than months. There 90% (9/10) that no prior history taking prenatal classes 80% (8/10) did not intend take any future. average SUS scores 90 SD 10.5. three 100, followed 97.5 (1/10), 95 87.5 85 (2/10), 82.5 one participant score 67.5 (1/10). No needed tasks.The able navigate multimedia ease obtain relevant related information. high acceptance settings.
