ABSTRACT
Background: Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with (GBMSM) accounted for 67% of new US human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections in 2012; however, less than 40% HIV-positive GBMSM are virally suppressed. Preventing transmission from unsuppressed condomless anal (CAS) serodiscordant partners is a public health imperative. New HIV attributed part to online access partners; therefore, low-cost eHealth interventions unique opportunity reach where they meet partners. Objective: To describe the protocol randomized controlled trial evaluating whether video-based messaging delivered may lead reductions CAS increased disclosure. Methods: Sex Positive![+] two-arm, phase III, living HIV. Participants intervention arm receive 10 video vignettes grounded social learning cognitive theories that designed elicit critical thinking around issues attention control focus on healthy living. All videos optimized mobile viewing. The study includes five assessments conducted over 1-year period among 1500 white, black, or Hispanic/Latino report suboptimal antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence detectable viral load past 12 months recent (past 6 months) HIV-negative unknown status male Compared arm, we hypothesize watch will at 12-month follow-up significantly fewer partners, disclosure, improved cognition (eg, condom use self-efficacy, perceived responsibility). Results: Participant recruitment began June 2015 ended December 2015. Conclusions: This describes underlying theoretical framework measures, design, challenges, antifraud measures an online, has potential decrease risk behaviors struggle ART adherence. allows participation through multiple Internet-based mediums engage broader population unsuppressed.
