ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to validate derived T2 maps as an objective measure muscular fat for discrimination between boys with Duchenne dystrophy (DMD) and healthy boys.Forty-two DMD (mean age, 9.9 years) 31 11.4 were included in the study. Age, body mass index, clinical function scale grade evaluated. T1-weighted MR images without suppression obtained. Fatty infiltration graded 0-4 on images, values (difference mean from suppression) gluteus maximus vastus lateralis muscles calculated. Group comparisons performed. upper limit 95% reference interval control group applied. There no significant difference age or index groups. All 19 (45.2%) had a normal grade. Grade 1 fatty seen 90.3% (gluteus maximus) 71.0% (vastus lateralis) versus 33.3% 52.4% DMD. significantly longer than (p < 0.001). Using (28.3 milliseconds) allowed complete separation (100% sensitivity, 100% specificity), whereas (7.28 resulted 83.3% sensitivity specificity.Measurement is accurate differentiating boys.
