ABSTRACT
SUMMARY: Aims: Peripheral neuropathy (PN) is a common condition whose incidence approximately 8% in elderly persons. Neuropathic pain (NeP) has significant the general population and affects more than half of all patients with PN. The pathophysiology PN characterized by lesions myelin-producing Schwann cells peripheral nerves. Regeneration/protection myelin sheath after nerve lesion fundamental element repair Nucleotides such as uridine monophosphate (UMP) have proven to be efficacious treating cause several experimental clinical models. Our objective was evaluate improvement NeP treated combination UMP+folic acid+vitamin B12 (Keltican®). Patients Methods: We performed an exploratory, open-label, multicenter, study 212 followed for 2 months. Pain assessed using painDETECT questionnaire (PDQ). Results: intensity at time consultation progressed favorably decreased significantly (p<0.001) types included. global score PDQ from 17.5 points 8.8 final evaluation (p<0.001). Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs were decreased/withdrawn 77.4% patients. Conclusions: effective against associated It leads statistically reductions not only total but also pain, number areas affected, radiation. Furthermore, it makes possible reduce dosage concomitant medication.
