ABSTRACT
The aim of this study is to clarify the possibilities for applying compact class logging machines in Latvian conditions. The equipment evaluated Vimek harvester and forwarder. The possibility using both forest operations from ditch clearing final felling has been terms productivity economy. The can be characterized by polynomial equations.Statistical significantly higher pre-commercial thinning was observed spring trials areas with or without extracted undergrowth trees comparison dense vegetation.Statistically significant difference artificially naturally regenerated stands -in better figures were obtained during extraction small (D 13 < 17 cm), bigger trees. The equipped a specialized head circular saw chain (Bracke C.12) early tending felling-bunching feed roller (Keto-Forest Eco) thinning. The achieved 187 m•h -1 , while larger ditches resulted an average 107 0.2 ha•h .Harvesting highly depends on tree diameter, but value 9.0 m 3 •h .The grey alder 11.5 .In all cases expressed as efficient work hours. The prime cost log production (extraction delivery) ranges 22.9 EUR•m -3 estimated hourly 63 EUR•h .
