ABSTRACT
Widespread eutrophication of the water bodies and consequential occurrence toxic algal blooms is one most serious environmental problems. Considering that aquatic macrophytesand microalgae compete for nutrients light, allelopathic inhibition growth considered to be an effective macrophyte competitive strategy against algae can bloom thus significantly decrease amount light reaches macrophytes. Three different concentrations Myriophyllum spicatum ethanolic extract were tested their inhibitory activity on natural phytoplankton assemblages. After applying extract, average biomass 3 replicates was measured during experimental time. All three M. extracts showed effect a certain extent. The maximal achieved with 5g/50 ml concentration at first sampling evident within all recorded phyla. Phylum Cyanobacteria found sensitive applied compared Chlorophyta Bacillariophyta.
