ABSTRACT
Preference for supportive versus discrepant information are examined under three experimental situations surrounding use: (1) a condition in which subjects receive chosen by mail, (2) anticipate joining discussion group following exposure, and (3) expect to debate one another after exposure information. The latter involving public use of resulted higher mean preferences than the private situation. Among persons situations, support-seeking was greater on issues about individuals felt strongly they held moderate opinions. Information choices were not related attitude intensity among Personality variables dogmatism self-esteem correlated with seeking, depending experimentally-manipulated situation use. In condition, positively support-seeking. situation, negatively support-seeking, as predicted. However, emerged positive correlate
