ABSTRACT
Hypoglycemia is a common acute complication in diabetes that often treated with carbohydrate-rich snacks or drinks. For individuals and household food insecurity (HFI), uncertain availability of may increase fear hypoglycemia (FOH). FOH prevent from optimal management. We analyzed data 1,603 adult (≥18 years, mean 23.7 80% type 1 [T1D], 20% 2 [T2D]) 592 youth (10.0-17.9 15.2 100% T1D) participants the SEARCH for Diabetes Youth Study. Adult parents completed U.S. Household Food Security Survey, where ≥3 insecure conditions behaviors indicate HFI. Adults, youth, Fear Survey provides behavior subscale (scores 0-60), worry 0-72), total score (sum subscales). examined association HFI general linear models, adjusting socioeconomic, demographic, clinical covariates. Approximately adults 17% had Adults T1D reporting (vs. no HFI) increased (+3 units behavior, +11 worry, +14 total), after adjustment covariates (all p<0.0001). Parents 3 unit (p=0.03). T2D (+8.9 total, +6 worry; all p<0.01). did not differ than those This research suggests among T1D, are more likely to experience without Implementation approaches ameliorate risk such as carrying problematic people who insecure. Providers could consider when discussing thereof their patients. Disclosure L.A. Reid: None. S. Zheng: J.A. Mendoza: B.A. Reboussin: K.A. Sauder: Saydah: J.M. Lawrence: E.T. Jensen: L. Henkin: K.
