ABSTRACT
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in individuals with diabetes. Individuals type 1 diabetes have two- to fourfold higher risk CVD comparison the general population, driven by an earlier onset increased lifetime incidence events mortality. Similarly, 2 confers threefold risk, usually alongside metabolic syndrome, obesity, hypertension. Despite advancements methods for achieving glycemic control, burden remains disproportionately high The mechanisms driving elevated are complex variably multifactorial, involving hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, inflammation, hypercoagulable state. Unfortunately, critical gaps understanding persist on how these factors interact promote versus diabetes, particularly across stages age. Addressing knowledge essential developing targeted therapies that can effectively mitigate risk. To meet this need, National Institute Diabetes Digestive Kidney Diseases, partnership Heart, Lung, Blood Institute, recently formed Repository Type (CaRe-T1D) program. Its mission elucidate molecular cellular pathways linking through provision high-quality human tissues investigator-led analyses using cutting-edge technologies collaborative data sharing advance precision medicine reduce global diabetes-associated cardiovascular complications.
