ABSTRACT
The presence of an enhanced cortisol secretion in patients with type 2 diabetes is debated. In diabetic subjects, was found to be associated the complications and metabolic control diabetes. We evaluated 170 subjects 71 sex-, age-, BMI-matched nondiabetic subjects. In all we ACTH at 8:00 a.m. basal conditions serum levels 12:00 p.m. (F24) 9:00 after a 1-mg overnight dexamethasone suppression test 24-h urinary free (UFC). patients, chronic (incipient nephropathy, asymptomatic neuropathy, background retinopathy, silent macroangiopathy). Patients were subdivided according absence (group 1, n = 53) or 2, 117) complications. In group UFC (125.2 +/- 4.6 nmol/24 h) F24 (120.6 4.1 nmol/l) higher than 1 (109.2 6.8 h, P 0.057, 99.7 6.1 nmol/l, 0.005, respectively) (101.7 5.9 0.002, 100.3 5.3 0.003, respectively). number (R 0.345; < 0.0001) duration 0.39; 0.0001). Logistic regression analysis showed that significantly F24, sex, diabetes, glycated hemoglobin. In hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal activity degree related complications.
