ABSTRACT
Strategies for initiating statin use among adult patients with diabetes primary cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention include treating all (assuming is a coronary risk equivalent) or who are at of developing CVD. The aim the study was to combine both strategies derive an appropriate age cutoff prescribing statins. By considering different strategies, we also assess effectiveness and efficiency reduce CVD events. This cross-sectional care population using electronic patient files from 304 general practitioner practices in England Wales. Of 60,258 diabetes, 11,005 men women aged 30-74 years fullfilled criteria prevention. Model outcomes were extrapolated estimated national prevalence 3.6%.The transition low-risk moderate-risk category diabetic occurred ages 40.6 44.2 years, respectively, sensitivity specificity fulfilling moderate 97.9 61.8% 92.0 77.0% women. When applied population, effective efficient strategy, potentially avoiding 11,094 events number needed treat 25.1.A strategy >40 45 statins showed good compromise between high reducing events. Strategy intervene if cholesterol >5 mmol/l least preventing
