ABSTRACT
It has recently been highlighted that proinflammatory (M1) macrophages predominate over anti-inflammatory (M2) in obesity, thereby contributing to obesity-induced adipose inflammation and insulin resistance. A recent clinical trial revealed highly purified eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) reduces the incidence of major coronary events. In this study, we examined effect EPA on M1/M2-like phenotypes peripheral blood monocytes obese dyslipidemic patients.Peripheral were prepared from 26 patients without 90 with dyslipidemia. Of latter dyslipidemia, 82 treated or treatment (1.8 g daily) for 3 months.Monocytes dyslipidemia showed a significantly lower expression interleukin-10 (IL-10), an M2 marker, than those increased serum IL-10 levels, EPA/arachidonic (AA) ratio, monocyte decreased pulse wave velocity (PWV), index arterial stiffness, compared control group. After treatment, EPA/AA ratio was correlated expression. Only increases adiponectin independent determinants PWV by EPA. Furthermore, secretion human monocytic THP-1 cells through peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)γ-dependent pathway. This study is first show parallel decrease which may contribute antiatherogenic patients.
