ABSTRACT
To describe the association of BMI with mortality in patients diagnosed type 2 diabetes.Using records 106,640 Scotland, we investigated between recorded around diagnosis diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and using Cox proportional hazards regression adjusted for age smoking status, 25 to <30 kg/m(2) as a referent group. Deaths within years determination were excluded. Mean follow-up death or end 2007 was 4.7 years.A total 9,631 deaths occurred 2001 2007. Compared reference group, risk higher 20 <25 (hazard ratio 1.22 [95% CI 1.13-1.32] men, 1.32 [1.22-1.44] women) ≥35 (for example, 1.70 [1.24-2.34] men 1.81 [1.46-2.24] women 45 <50 kg/m(2)). Vascular each 5-kg/m(2) increase >30 by 24% (15-35%) 23% (14-32%) women, but lower below this threshold. The results similar after further adjustment HbA1c, year diagnosis, lipids, blood pressure, socioeconomic status.Patients categorized normal weight obese T2DM exhibit variably outcomes compared overweight confirming U-shaped mortality. Whether loss interventions reduce all requires study.
