ABSTRACT
Many patients with type 2 diabetes do not reach glycemic goals despite basal insulin treatment. This study assessed the achievement of a target A1C <7.0% (<53 mmol/mol) after initiation in two settings. This was retrospective analysis pooled randomized controlled trial (RCT) data, from 11 24-week studies initiating performed between 2000 and 2005 outpatient electronic medical record (EMR) data General Electric Centricity database for insulin-naive 2012. Baseline characteristics stratified by fasting plasma glucose (FPG) attainment were compared descriptively. In RCT dataset, 49.0% failed to achieve at 6 months versus 72.4% 72.9% 12 EMR respectively. Despite this, 79.4% achieved and/or an FPG <130 mg/dL. In only 47.6% 47.3% mg/dL months, Overall, >7.0% had longer duration more likely be female, nonwhite, self-funding or covered Medicaid. Among >7.0%, (58.0%) than (27.8%) (27.7%).Unmet needs remain initiation, particularly real-world settings, where many require further titration. both populations, failing attaining interventions improve postprandial control.
