Game-based versus multilateral approach: effects of a 12-week program on motor skill acquisition and physical fitness development in soccer school children

ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects a 12-week-game-based training versus traditional multilateral approach on motor skills acquisition and physical fitness, in group U9 children playing soccer. METHODS Forty aged 9 or younger (U9) recruited from local soccer school were assigned 1:1 ratio game-based program (GB) (MA) approach. programs lasted 12 weeks, players tested at baseline end (12-week follow-up). outcomes were: standing long jump test, shuttle dribble 10×5 run test Mini-Cooper test. RESULTS Within-group comparisons showed statistically-significant improvements both groups: lump (P<0.0001), (P<0.0001) (P<0.0001). Furthermore, MA better performance after weeks compared GB (P=0.0002; +8%). CONCLUSIONS A promotes development without affecting learning of-soccer skills. Therefore, should be included ensure an optimal young players.
