Assessing Public Awareness and Practices in Medicine Disposal: A Cross- Sectional Study on the Utilisation of the 'Return Your Medicines' Program in Terengganu, Malaysia

ABSTRACT
Improper disposal of unused and expired medicines poses a significant risk to public health the environment. While medication return programs have been established in various countries mitigate this issue, data on their utilisation remain limited. The study aims identify practices medicines; evaluate public's awareness "Return Your Medicines" (RYM) program; investigate factors related practices, awareness, RYM usage. A quantitative, cross-sectional survey was conducted Terengganu, Malaysia, involving 290 adults recruited through convenience sampling. Data were analysed using SPSS, employing both descriptive inferential analyses, including chi-square test. findings show that nearly 90% participants improperly dispose by discarding them household trash giving friends relatives. Out participants, only 33.4% aware program, 23.7% had used it. There is notable prevalence improper medicine as well limited level about program. These highlight crucial role healthcare practitioners, especially pharmacists, continuously educating safe practices. Furthermore, development implementation innovative strategies are imperative increase engagement with program promote safer methods.
