Medical conditions among Iraqi refugees in Jordan: data from the United Nations Refugee Assistance Information System

ABSTRACT
To determine the range and burden of health services utilization among Iraqi refugees receiving assistance in Jordan, a country first asylum.Medical conditions, diagnosed accordance with tenth revision International classification diseases, were actively monitored from 1 January to 31 December 2010 using pilot centralized database Jordan called Refugee Assistance Information System.There 27 166 medical visits by 7642 (mean age: 37.4 years; 49% male; 70% Baghdad; 6% disabled; 3% history torture). Chronic diseases common, including essential hypertension (22% refugees), visual disturbances (12%), joint disorders (11%) type II diabetes mellitus (11%). The most common reasons for seeking acute care upper respiratory tract infection (11%), supervision normal pregnancy (4%) urinary (3%). conditions requiring highest number per refugee cerebrovascular disease (1.46 visits), senile cataract (1.46) glaucoma (1.44). Sponsored included 747 referrals or consultations specialty service, 18 432 drug dispensations, 2307 laboratory studies 1090 X-rays. specialties commonly required ophthalmology, dentistry, gynaecology orthopaedic surgery.Iraqi countries asylum resettlement require targeted services, education sustainable prevention control strategies predominantly chronic diseases.
