ABSTRACT
Abstract Brucella ovis infects sheep and causes a clinical or subclinical disease characterized by genital lesions reduced fertility in rams, placentitis abortions ewes, increased perinatal mortality lambs. As part of this study, analyses were conducted on farm near Belgrade (Serbia). Of the serological tests, indirect ELISA was performed. A total 94 blood sera analyzed, 33 from rams 61 ewes. The results showed 23 (69.7%) positive findings 2 (3.3%) with an overall prevalence 25.4% bounded 95% confidence interval. Bruce-ladder multiplex PCR Real time performed 19 serologically two indicate slightly higher sensitivity compared to conventional diagnosing B. reproductive tissues rams. However, differences between different nucleic acid extraction protocols not significant. Most result only one sample tissue, suggesting recommendation take multiple samples each animal. Further research is needed bring molecular tests ram epididymitis closer tests.
