How to measure the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on quality of life: COV19-QoL – the development, reliability and validity of a new scale

ABSTRACT
Abstract Objective The primary objective of this paper is to present a short measure perceptions on the impact COVID-19 pandemic quality life, along with analysis its reliability and validity in non-clinical clinical samples. Methods scale was named COV19 – Impact Quality Life (COV19-QoL) it consists six items presented form 5-point Likert scale. (i.e. statements) cover main areas life regard mental health. administered 1346 participants from general population Croatia (the sample) 201 patients severe illness recruited four European countries (Bosnia Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia Serbia), constituting sample. sample part randomised controlled trial IMPULSE funded by Commission. Data age gender were collected for both samples, psychiatric diagnoses Results Main findings included high internal consistency moderate strong positive correlation among participants’ scores different items. Principal component yielded one latent component. between their results COV19-QoL negligible. Participants’ perceived most impacted domain, whereas health, personal safety levels depression least domains pandemic. Discussion reliable valid which can be used explore life. successfully researchers clinicians interested people experiencing various pre-existing health issues (e.g. anxiety, mood personality disorders) as well those without such issues.
