ABSTRACT
Objective: To evaluate the impact of an emergency department simulation on pharmacy students’ interprofessional team skills and attitudes as measured by a novel mixed methods approach. Methods: A simulated encounter was executed teams consisting medical students. Two rounds same were separated short debriefing session facilitated faculty. full, comprehensive occurred after conclusion second round. Pharmacy faculty evaluated students using competency-based checklist each round simulation. completed baseline self-assessment their pre-simulation, again post-simulation. Results: demonstrated significant improvement in providing clear concise verbal communication shared decision making to develop collaborative plan care, based upon student observational ratings. Student self-assessments also showed perceived growth contributing team’s demonstrating active listening within team. Through qualitative analysis, noted self-improvement variety team-based including confidence, critical thinking, role identification, communication, self-awareness. Conclusion: This provided learning opportunity for improve related teamwork collaboration.
