ABSTRACT
Although the rate of suicide is low in Muslim countries, there evidence that it increasing.An integrated analysis was made data on attempts (nonfatal and fatal) from studies carried out Islamic Republic Iran 1981 to 2007.Of 54 published concerning suicide, 48 (covering 26 768 cases attempted suicide) satisfied inclusion criteria.The weighted mean 26.5 per 100 000 average death by 6.7 000.The age attempters 25 years; 41.8% were male, 50.5% single 70.0% urban areas.Most not working: 54.2% housewives, 24.5% students 21.0% unemployed men.Medical history showed 16.2% had a disability 42.0% psychological disorders.The rates compared with other nations/religious groups.
