Brucellosis outbreak in Chouf district of Lebanon in 2009: a case-control study

ABSTRACT
A study was conducted to determine risk factors associated with brucellosis infection in an outbreak Chouf district of Lebanon during summer 2009.Cases reported the Ministry Public Health were identified, and for each case 2 controls matched by sex, age residence.Sociodemographic data, exposure animals animal products, knowledge about brucellosis, symptoms history past infections collected.Consumption raw cheese a significant factor contracting (matched OR = 29.5),whereas wearing gloves when contact products self-preparing dairy protective (OR 0.08 0.13 respectively).Low inaccurate prevalent among subjects, common misconception human-human transmission.Ensuring vaccination, educating people on correct ways milk pasteurization handling meat elevating food safety monitoring threshold are key elements controlling brucellosis.
