Abstract Following a request from the European Commission, EFSA was asked to deliver scientific opinion on proposed modification of terms authorisation feed additive consisting preparation canthaxanthin (CAROPHYLL® Red 10%), regarding addition new production route, by yeast Yarrowia lipolytica CBS 146148 and modify specifications substituting ethoxyquin 4.4% butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) increasing limit for dichloromethane 80 mg/kg. The is already authorised as zootechnical breeder hens. Panel Additives Products or Substances used in Animal Feed (FEEDAP) concluded. CAROPHYLL® 10% containing produced fermentation with safe target species, consumer environment under current conditions use 10%. Regarding user safety, not irritant skin eyes unlikely be sensitiser. No conclusion can reached respiratory sensitisation canthaxanthin. In absence data 10%, no conclusions safety user. 146148, efficacious hens at 6 mg/kg complete feed.
